I’ve known Paul Weiser for 26 years, initially as a direct sales representative report at Avid Technology. When recommending an individual, I look for three key characteristics: quantitative success drivers, qualitative skills and a moral compass. Paul is very aware of the revenue drivers and need to over achieve targets.  At Avid, his team consistently broke through revenue goals. His management style was goal driven and I watched him set up specific plans and managerial oversight in areas where each member of his sales team needed different management drivers.  Paul understands the sales cycle and where the core inflection points exist to move a buyer to feel comfortable in making a large investment.  Frequently, Paul would not hesitate to engage with the senior decision makers of an organization, providing managerial air cover for the more tactical aspects of the sales representative.  Paul’s strategic insight allows him to focus on the core business drivers where an organization’s solutions have meaningful differentiation versus the competition.

Hiring is always a tough challenge.  Paul has a “third-eye” for getting good hires more frequently than most managers I’ve worked with.  Making key hires is much like a successful college coach, get the best players and you’ll win more than you’re competition.  What Paul adds to the mix is with top talent, is not to over manage or has the ego to claim success for the team, instead, he positions his team to get the accolades.
